► Swimming
Endlessly In Place?
I have
heard about pools that allow you to swim in place, without
having to turn around. How can this be done? I have a
Viking
Fiberglass pool, so retro-fitting is not something I want to
do. Thanks for the help.
Erica H., Chapel Hill, NC 2/22/2013

No retro-fitting required! You can either add equipment that
will create a current to swim into. By swimming into this
adjustable current, you end up swimming in place. It is
simply placed on the coping and over the side of the pool.
While it works well, it may not fit into every budget. The
other way is to tether yourself to something outside of the
pool. On the other hand, the
Super Aquatic Trainer is
affordable and allows you to swim or walk away from the
starting point, but holds you back and in place. It consists
of a belt, tethered to a long flexible long. The harder you
swim, the more resistance it provides. Either way you can
swim endlessly, even in a smaller pool. I hope that this
will provide an endless amount of fun.
Sincerely. Alan Schuster, 2/22/2013
► Aquatic
Training In Above Ground Pool?
I have a 15' round above ground pool
and would like to do some aquatic fitness and exercise. Is
there some that you would suggest for my size pool.
Bob N., Commack, NY 3/3/2011
There is something that will work, in most any pool. The
Super Aquatic Trainer, utilizes a belt and
a long pole, and allows you to swim or walk, endlessly in
place. There are several inground models and one designed
for above ground pools. It can provide the same health
benefits as the most expensive types of pools and equipment.
Use it properly and you'll see the results, without the
major expenditure. I think it is just what you're looking
for. This product is professional grade and is used by swim
pros. Enjoy the workout!
Sincerely. Alan Schuster, 3/3/2011
► Sanitizer Choice?
We are having a pool built in an
enclosed space. It is our plan to use this, year round, for
aerobic and physical exercise, utilizing something that will
permit swimming in place. It will be used by two people, for
about one hour daily. How can you sanitize the water, both
to assure proper sanitizing and, yet, minimize the chemical
sensations? I would rather not use chlorine. Thanks for your
time and assistance.
Tamara B., Briarcliff Manor, NY, 7/23/2010
Planning ahead is a smart thing to do. The physical
exercise, from swimming in place, does place more demand on
the sanitizer, than just lounging in the water. However,
this can be overcome, with the right system. I would choose,
one of two methods. You can use an ozone generator and a
mineral sanitizer. A UltraPure Ozone Generator will provide
the necessary oxidation of bather wastes and organic
byproducts. A Pool Frog Mineral
Sanitizer will provide persist backup sanitation, by the
slow release of sanitizing ions. This will enable you to maintain quality water, while
maintaining a chlorine or bromine level at 1/2 of the normal
amount. Is the better way to do chlorine, in any type of
pool. I hope that this information helps to keep you in the
swim.
Sincerely. Alan Schuster, 7/23/2010
► Increasing
The Lap Length?
I have a relatively small inground
pool and it is great for cooling off, but not for swimming
laps. Can you tell me about devices that facilitate lap
swimming. Sincerely.
Aaron T, 12/15/2007

You can't stretch the pool, but you
can add something that will allow to
swim straight ahead, withouta lap ending
turn. One rather expensive method, involves a water flow
generating piece of equipment that is set on the pool's
edge. It creates and adjustably strong current that allows
you to swim in place. The other choice, an
Aquatic Fitness Trainer, involves a belt, around the waist,
that is attached to the pool deck and is modestly priced.
You get held back, by the strapping, and can swim without
interruption or turns. A
salt chlorine generator is an
excellent way to sanitize the pool and allows you the
ability to dial up the chlorine output, during periods of
increased physical activity. I hope that this will help you
locate the right product.

► Getting A
Better Workout?
I would like to do some exercises in
my pool. I have some limited range of motion problems. Any
suggestions?
Brady G., Delray Beach, FL 9/29/2008

You can do all sorts of exercises, using a buoyancy vest and
barbells, wrist weights, ankle weights and more. The right
combination will get you walking, jogging or just exercising
to get in better shape. It will allow you to start slow and
pick up the pace. However, all things considered, there are
few backyard pool exercises more effective than
swimming
endlessly in place. I hope that this information will be
helpful.
Sincerely. Alan Schuster, 9/30/2008
► Aquatic
Access Lifts?
I have seen lifts at physical
rehabilitation facilities, that are used to provide access
to a pool or therapy bath for people with handicaps or
physical limitations. We are thinking of adding a pool, at
our Florida home and are wondering if this type of equipment
can be used in a home pool? Thank you.
Mike K., Boynton Beach, FL, 11/22/2008
No problem here! Aquatic lifts are available for all types
of pools and situations. It can be added after the pool is
built or a fitting can be installed, as the pool deck is
being constructed. Either way, there should be a lift for
your needs. I hope that this information will be helpful.
Sincerely. Alan Schuster, 11/23/2008
